Coen Brothers are a pair of sui generis filmmakers with an array of product diversity! In Hail, Caesar!, the siblings are here to recount the livelihood of a 'fixer' working in Capitol Pictures Studio. It pays homage to the Hollywood Golden Age, in a strangely feel-good, occasionally uproarious, tonally vast & visually resounding method!
Alden Ehrenreich is great as Hobie Doyle & he has the second funniest scene in the picture, featuring Ralph Fiennes as director Laurence Laurentz, guiding the former in the shooting mise en scène. The top cake of course, belongs to the theological discussion chapter about Jesus Christ with the faith representatives! Same questions for Thessaly & Thora Thacker (both played by Tilda Swinton) by Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin) is on the third spot, while the accident in the editor's room snatches the fourth.
The film's airbrushed with pristine & warm colours! Over-the-top acting performances & reputations or perceptions of actors during the olden days are informational. Sound effects are effective & Burt Gurney's (Channing Tatum) sailor comedy musical foot taps are merrymaking!
Is the screenplay persistently interesting? No, not at all. The hustle & bustle of Eddie is not relatable to many. Therefore, what we see are only events with minimal significances.
