Casting directors Victoria Thomas and Cindy Tolan deserve pats on their backs for their excellent handpicked choice of actors to portray the real life artists. One would be amazed by the subtle yet vivid aging effect that's done as the story travels forward in the proposed timeline.
On the B-side, Straight Outta Compton carries a few weightless side stories, resulting in the tad long runtime. When the boys were nobody to the point where they are somebody, the scenes try to show the fact that they always receive the same type of treatment from the police, which could come off repetitive and arguably, stereotypical.
