The Danish Girl is a musically and scenically serene looking vintage picture that submits its elegance to your gaze. Screenwriting wise it's shallow and off-putting at times as it doesn't do a good job in visually developing the main character's transition to her true self as the writer hardcoded the plot to meet the definitive end goal from the very beginning.
The editing misses the tempo sometimes and the film has the tendency to vanish into a cumbersome slope of matters. Eddie Redmayne as Lili Elbe is fine, but Alicia Vikander as Gerda Wegener is the one to put your thumbtack on. She is excellent! Their separation is heartbreaking, but that is what completes the arc of her supportive supporting character! The love she has for her husband is impeccable!
Towards the resolution, you do feel pity for Lili, especially after the surgeries. Only if the Third Act was shorter and sweeter, the ending wouldn't have been the slumber that it was.
