Welcome to Toy Story 3 - the most heartbreaking instalment of the franchise! The moment the toys feared for has arrived. Andy (voiced by John Morris) is 17, preparing to go to college. Anytime now, these toys could be discarded. The danger is present and the end is near! If you think the movie starts in a sad note, wait till you see how it ends.
The best part of the Toy Story films is how organically the coincidences are written. Andy packing the toys in a garbage bag to be placed in the attic being mistaken as trash by mum and toys mistaken Andy for throwing them out resulting in donating themselves to Sunnyside Daycare are examples.
Just like the previous entries, Toy Story 3 is full-fledged action-packed as it gets! Initial train robbery, Buzz (voiced by Tim Allen) being switched to factory setting, Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) exiting daycare through the toilet and a wind glider, Buzz reaching for the opened transom and the entire escape plan with Ken (voiced by Michael Keaton) modelling outfits, monkey-hijack and Mr. Tortilla Head (voiced by Don Rickles) before the lot being caught by Lotso (voiced by Ned Beatty) are profoundly energetic sequences! Spanish Buzz (voiced by Javier Fernández Peña) flirting with Jessie (voiced by Joan Cusack), Ken's and Barbie's romance plus toys being tortured by preschoolers were hilarious!
Technically, Toy Story 3 is superior to its predecessors. High quality voice acting, impactful score and the extremely photorealistic animation could make you go "Wow!" every 5 minutes! Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear aka Lotso is an intimidating antagonist and Ken is a good silly addition to the pot!
Toy Story 3 was made with the one intention to relive every childhood emotions you have ever experienced, and man was it a cryfest! Woody wanting to speak to Andy via a telephone, Lotso's backstory, Woody parting with his friends at daycare and Andy's past till present recap with the toys were tearjerkers! The climax is definitely a hard watch. Toys struggling to survive in a conveyor dumpster before being dropped into the incinerator and accepting their fate by holding hands will stop your heart. With a beautiful resolution of toys being given to Bonnie (voiced by Emily Hahn) and Andy explaining to her each of the toys' roles, it's impossible to hold your tears in as Woody spells his farewell to Andy.
Andy: "Now Woody, he's been my pal for as long as I can remember. He's brave, like a cowboy should be. And kind, and smart. But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what."
